Footer layout

Appearance → Customize → Footer → Footer layout. A picture-radio with two choices.

Stacked (default)

Copyright, then the footer menu and the social links, all centred in a column.

Calm and symmetrical. It suits a short footer — a copyright line and half a dozen links — and it is the theme’s original arrangement.

Inline

The copyright takes the left half; the footer menu and the social links sit together on the right.

Denser, and more like a site footer than a blog sign-off. It reads better when there is real content on both sides — a copyright line with a link in it, and a menu of four or five items.

On small screens Inline folds back to the stacked column, so a phone always gets the readable version.

  1. Copyright — year, your text and the theme credit, each with its own switch
  2. Footer menu — from the Footer menu location
  3. Social links — from the Social menu location, with their own switch

Any of them can be absent. If the copyright is empty in all three of its parts, no copyright block is printed at all — not an empty box the layout still spaces around. If both the menu and the social links are absent, the wrapper that holds them is not printed either.

So a footer stripped to nothing collapses to just its padding, which is a legitimate look on a site whose footer has nothing to say.

Styling it

Under Design → Footer:

The layout lives in the Footer section rather than Design → Footer because it is an arrangement you choose, not a colour — the same split as the header layout. Each section links across to the other.
